How to Stop Procrastinating: A Practical Guide with Brite
Procrastination isn't laziness — it's an emotional response to overwhelming tasks. The good news: the right system can break the cycle. Here's how to use Brite to beat procrastination.
- The task feels too big or unclear
- We're afraid of failure or judgment
- There's no immediate consequence
- We don't know where to start
The solution: make tasks small, clear, and immediate.
Never put "Write thesis" on your task list. Instead:
- "Open thesis document" (2 min)
- "Write introduction paragraph" (15 min)
- "Find 3 sources for chapter 2" (20 min)
Use subtasks in Brite to break big tasks into 15-minute chunks.
If a task takes less than 2 minutes — do it NOW. Don't add it to the list. Just do it.
Open the Schedule widget and assign every hour a purpose. When you know exactly what you're supposed to do at 2pm, you're less likely to drift into social media.
4. Pomodoro: Just Start for 15 Minutes
The hardest part is starting. Set a Pomodoro timer for just 15 minutes (ADHD mode). Tell yourself: "I only need to work for 15 minutes." Once you start, momentum usually carries you further.
5. Focus Sounds Block Distractions
Put on headphones, play brown noise or rain sounds in Focus Sounds. This creates a "work bubble" that blocks outside distractions.
Check off completed tasks throughout the day. Review them in the evening. Seeing a list of things you DID builds confidence and momentum for tomorrow.
